“For lovers of old stones like us, the wilderness that is left after the fall of ancient cities – which is not like any other kind of wilderness – this place could hardly be better.” (Barry Unsworth, Crete)

Roman Footprints is the travel and writing project of Margo Malcolm. Armed with a passion for traveling and a honours degree in Greek and Roman Studies, I have embarked on an ambitious adventure to discover the footprints the Romans left behind across their vast empire.

The journey began on the isle of Britannia and so far has continued to France, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Portugal. This website is a journal of what I have seen and discovered on my travels. I am also compiling a book about my journey to the Roman sites of Britain. I weave my travelogue with the stories of the people of ancient Roman Britannia and what footprints of their lives are still visible today.
